Coaching smoother driving through advanced in-cab technology
Lightfoot’s in-cab device is fully connected to the vehicle’s onboard computer, allowing our intelligent technology to read and understand the engine data. This means Lightfoot can get a true picture of how the vehicle is being operated, taking into account factors such as gear selection, revs, engine load, payload, whether the vehicle is going uphill or downhill, and even whether it’s towing.
This information allows the device to provide real-time coaching based on actual driver performance, guiding your drivers towards a motoring style that uses the engine as productively as possible, leading to optimal efficiency and fuel economy.
Training is delivered throughout Lightfoot’s patented ‘nudge’ system – developed by behavioural scientists and psychologists – which uses audible alerts and traffic lights on the display to make drivers aware when they’re moving away from the sweet spot of the engine, or the point where the vehicle is delivering the best possible mileage.
Very quickly, drivers learn to adjust their driving style in the moment, making intuitive changes before instances of poor driving even occur. The result is a cost-effective fleet where improvements are sustained over time as smoother, safer driving becomes the norm, replacing bad habits such as speeding, harsh braking, and rapid acceleration.

Realistic targets
The goal is simple - every driver is aiming to reach the ‘Elite Driver’ standard by keeping their Lightfoot device in the green as often as possible. This doesn’t mean driving efficiently 100% of the time – that’s just not feasible in real-world driving. Instead, the target is set at 85%, allowing plenty of scope for essential manoeuvres such as building speed on slip roads or pulling away quickly at roundabouts. Without Lightfoot, around 3% of drivers will achieve this standard – with Lightfoot, 80% of fleet drivers hit the target.
Healthy competition
Drivers can keep an eye on their score and monitor their performance via the app, as well as seeing how they measure up against other drivers via the in-app league tables and leader boards. There are plenty of options, including pre-set league tables between different departments and regions, and app users can even create their own leagues, sparking light-hearted, healthy competition between friends and colleagues.
